Homemade Stain Remover

Homemade Stain Remover

DIY-stain-remover- #7

Ingredients

  • one part Dawn dish-washing liquid soap (I usually use 1 tablespoon)
  • two parts hydrogen peroxide (I usually use 2 tablespoons)
  • 1-2 tablespoons baking soda (I usually use 1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the ingredients together.
  2. Use a small brush to scrub the mixture into the stained area. Rinse, then launder as usual.
  3. For tougher stains, let the mixture sit on the stained garment for an hour or so, then launder. Or treat the area a few times before laundering.

Notes

I recommend doing a test on an inconspicuous part of the garment first to make sure that the spot remover will not harm the fabric. Hydrogen peroxide can be tough on fabric. Peroxide is sensitive to light, hence the dark bottles, so it is best to mix this up in small amounts as needed for each time.

I searched on Google for homemade laundry stain remover, and this was what I found. It sounds pretty good to me. I am going to try it the next time I do laundry. If it works, then I will have an alternative to having to buy stain remover, and an added bonus that I am able to use all of the ingredients for other things as well. I will post an update to let you know how it worked for me.  This was on the http://fabulesslyfrugal.com/homemade-stain-remover-picture-tutorial/    website.

The Only Spot Remover You Will Ever Need

The Only Spot Remover You Will Ever Need

A lot of you probably already know that you can use a grease-fighting dish soap to help with grease stains, but this easy concoction takes it up a notch…

DIY-stain-remover- #1

Stains that would not come out with other methods and cleaners came out completely with this spot remover. Try this spot remover on: yellow underarm stains, blood stains, grease stains, poop stains, baby food stains, cutting board stains, and much more!

Plus, it is cheap! You probably already have everything you need to make it right now.

Do you keep baking soda in your fridge for odors? After your baking soda has soaked up all the odors that it can, give it a second life and put it to work in this cleaning mixture.

DIY-stain-remover- #2

Mix the 3 ingredients together in a small bowl. I just mix up a small amount each time I have a few stains to treat because the hydrogen peroxide may become less effective when exposed to light.

Little bowls like these custard cups would work great and come in handy for all sorts of other things in the kitchen!

DIY-stain-remover- #4

Use a small brush to scrub the mixture into the stained area. I use an old toothbrush. Then rinse, if desired. Launder as usual.

For tough stains, you can let the mixture sit on the garment for an hour or so, then launder as usual. Or treat the area a few times before laundering. This often even works on old stains that have even already been set!

DIY-stain-remover- #5

For this lovely stain, we let it sit for a few minutes after the first treatment, rinsed, then we treated it again and let it sit for another little while. After laundering as normal, the stain is completely gone!

Homemade Mosquito Repellent

Mosquitoes Repellent

This really works! I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled? A 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well.. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children’s swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don’t leave home without it….Pass it on.

Flubber DIY

Flubber  DIY

1/2 cup white Elmer’s glue
2/3 cup warm water
food coloring
1 teaspoon Borax
2 glass bowls

In a small glass bowl, mix together glue, 1/3 cup warm water and food coloring (add enough drop until desired color). In another glass bowl, mix Borax and 1/3 cup warm water. Pour glue solution into bowl containing Borax mixture, gently stir together. It will be wet, and within a few minutes it will set. Keep in a container to keep it from drying out.

This looks like a really neat project to do with children. There are not many children that do not like to make things out of clay, Silly Putty or Play Doh. The Flubber reminds me of Play Doh or Silly Putty.

How To Make A DIY Emergency Air Heater
How To Make A DIY Emergency Air Heater
December 26, 2014

This video tutorial teaches you how to make something that will come in handy during an emergency using only three components: a soup can, a roll of toilet paper, and 70% isopropyl alcohol. According to the YouTube description, this contraption is capable of heating a room in a pinch, and since it does not require electricity, is ideal for power outages or for outdoor activities like camping, hiking, or hunting. In the video, he also converts the heaters into a stove and demonstrates how one could use it to cook food. Overall, this is a good life hack to remember, as you never know when you might need to use it.

According to Ready.gov (the website for the Department of Homeland Security’s emergency preparedness campaign), the three crucial steps we should all take in being prepared are to “(1) build an emergency supply kit, (2) make a family emergency plan and (3) be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.” For the first step, they recommend that at the bare minimum your kit should include the following items:
– Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
– Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
– Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
– Flashlight and extra batteries
– First aid kit
– Whistle to signal for help
– Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
– Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
– Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
– Manual can opener for food
– Local maps
– Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
(list from Ready.gov)
Of course, your kit should also include any medications your family may need, as well as pet supplies, but that aspect varies from family to family. The second step is fairly straightforward, but Ready.gov makes it a point to mention that your family might not be together during an emergency, so you should establish a meeting place and determine how you will get in contact with one another. You should also make plans regarding places your family frequently spends time, like workplaces, schools, community organizations, or even while commuting. As for the third step, the most important thing to do is research the necessary measures you and your family will need to take before, during, and after an event.
Watch this clever life hack in the video below, and share your thoughts with us in the comments section. Besides the basics, what do you think should go in your kit?

DIY Experts Demonstrate All Sorts Of New Uses For Vodka
December 25, 2014

Vodka, besides being used in cocktails as a social lubricant, has a wide variety of uses. Of course, it’ll keep you warm in the winter, but did you know it could be used as a bug repellent? The video below shows off a few different uses for Vodka that you may not know about. According to the popular Youtube channel Crazy Russian Hacker, these tips are widely known about in Russia. We’re not sure if that’s true, but we know that none of us here at SF Globe had heard about these tricks before now!

The video below explains how vodka can be used to improve your hair and clean your bathroom, but there are several other uses as well. Esquire posted an article saying that vodka is also a good cure for poison ivy and jellyfish stings. Jellyfish stings aren’t something I have to worry about on a daily basis, but it’s nice to know what to do should I encounter an angry jellyfish.
Watch the video below to see detailed instructions on how to use vodka in a variety of ways you probably didn’t know were possible. The video also does a great job of explaining why vodka is doing the things it’s doing. If you thought this video was interesting, make sure to share it with your friends! Do you know of any other odd secret tricks to keep bugs away? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Bathroom Scum remover
This works SO good!!

You'll need:
1/2 c. of Dawn Dishsoap (Original)
1/2 c. White Vinegar
1 spray bottle

Heat the vinegar until it's HOT, I simply put mine in a glass Pyrex measuring cup and stuck it in the microwave for 1 minute.

Pour it into a clean spray bottle, add the dawn dish soap, put the cap on and shake very gently to mix. (Or you can mix it right in the Pyrex measuring cup and pour it into the bottle

Spray liberally on the surface you wish to clean, leave it alone to do the work for 20 minutes or so. Or better yet, spray it before you go to work, and wipe it up when you come home. Once it's had a chance to work it's magic, wipe it off with a clean rag or sponge and some warm water.

Grapefruit Tub Cleaner  Instead of sponges wetted with chemicals, consider using a grapefruit. Its natural acids clean just as well, without irritating the skin, and gives a nice smell afterwards.

Coke in the Toilet Bowl.   A classic trick of custodians all over the world, a dash of Coca-Cola (or any other soft drink) in your toilet bowl cleaning solution will greatly improve its effectiveness.   The acid works wonder at removing stains; just remember to rinse with water application.

Petroleum Plunger Plug.  A little petroleum jelly around the edge of your plunger will help it stick firmly in the toilet, giving it better suction and improving its lifespan.

  • Hang An Extra Shower Curtain Rod.     Tired of bottles, tubes, soap, and toys slipping off shelves and all over the shower floor? Easy fix!   Buy another curtain rod and install it on the back wall of your shower and hang baskets from it. Everyone can have their own basket!

Magnet Strips for Bobby Pins.   Bobby pins have an unfortunate tendency to just sort of be everywhere, except, of course, for when you need one.   Attaching them to a weak magnetic strip pasted to your wall can save you time and frustration.

  • Use Curtains To Highlight Your Tub.   Boring bathroom? Step it up a notch by hanging curtains near the ceiling around your bathtub. It’ll instantly give a touch of class to an otherwise yawn-worthy bathroom.
